"blurb": "As Saturn conjuncts Neptune at the very first degree of the zodiac, this ancient ghost of the Eora electronic underworld returns.  In the 2000s and 2010s, his FBi Radio show Liquid Electric championed emerging local electronic acts working in heretofore undiscovered genres, informing his sprawling, shapeshifting debut. Shape Change Black Alert draws deep from his cavernous archives, presenting relics of lost collaborations as glimmers of refracted hope. In this distant past, he’d shared stages with Seekae and Rufus Du Sol. He’s remixed artists like Collarbones and Cherry Rype. Can you hear these echoes in his new release? Shape Change Black Alert meanders through these clubland ruins. Is it IDM you can actually dance to? Dancefloor wreckers for DJs who have the gall to play the game on hard-mode? Or is it just the long shadow of a man with a laptop? Recorded in exile, the album is willfully unmoored electronica with a backbone of UK bass, slithering between prismatic joy and occult claustrophobia. The lead single ‘Sometimes (club)’ is a mutated footwork ballad that once served as the destructive closing track to his genre-obliterating live shows. Loopsnake remains lost under a desert sky. Some say they’ve seen him counting jewels for the Sultan, or wandering the glittering dunes with nothing but his headphones and the clothes on his back. But they say he’s doing well. He wishes, no doubt, that he released this album years ago. But as they say, the second best time is now. LOOPSNAKE - SHAPE CHANGE BLACK ALERT - OUT EVERYWHERE Feb 20. Contact. "blurb": "Eora's Loopsnake is a DJ and producer best known for fusing the trickery of the experimental underground with upfront club energy in his genre-defying rollercoaster performances. Or at least he was. He was tricked into getting a suit-and-tie job hoping he could make lots of money to spend on synths, but instead he wound up spending that money on new suits and new ties. He traded sharing stages with Rufus, Seekae and Mark Pritchard for sitting in meetings with three guys, all called David, with nothing but Cisco’s iconic hold music in his headphones. The fool! Last year his wife got a big promotion and he followed her halfway across the world to a city where he's ‘not allowed to work’ for visa reasons. There’s only so clean the house can get, only so many meals to cook a day, and only so many YouTube rabbit holes to get lost in, so Loopsnake had no choice. Blessed with the kind of freedom you can only find by being unemployed in a country where you don’t know anybody, he turned back to the ultimate timesuck - electronic music production. As his suits and ties slowly turn to dust, Loopsnake makes music drawing on his roots as an indie DJ, as an electronica radio host and as the formerly most sought after remixer in the North-West Sydney folktronica scene. Following on from last years’ IDM-for-the-dancefloor EP ‘Shape Change’, his new offering ‘Black Alert’ moves in a more bass-heavy direction, from the big-beat electro throwback Booty Pop, the trip-hop infused jungle of Witchvox and the psy-footwork hybrid title track. The EP ends with a couple of hip-hop adjacent collabs with Canberra’s Orbit and Eora’s Flukazoid. This is the sound of overthinking club music from a home office. Like if Four Tet, Machinedrum and the Chemical Brothers were all accountants or something. He hung up his headphones years ago but now - with wild ideas and nothing else to do - he's back on his way to being Australia’s next top house-husband slash producer.",

"blurb": "Hailing from Eora (Sydney, Australia), Loopsnake is an innovative producer and DJ who has been making waves in the electronic music scene since the mid 2000s. He is best known for hosting the cult radio show Liquid Electric on FBi Radio, where he showcased the best in cutting-edge club music and experimental sounds. With a diverse musical background that encompasses genres including ambient, dubstep, wonky and rave, Loopsnake has developed a unique sound that defies easy categorization. His music is characterized by intricate rhythms, atmospheric textures, and a dynamic interplay between light and dark. In addition to his work as a producer and radio host, he has also earned a reputation as a remixer, lending his talents to tracks by artists such as Seekae, Tim Shiel, Marcus Whale and Simo Soo. After a hiatus of several years, Loopsnake is back with a new EP, his first release since 2018's Don't Stop. The EP is a showcase of his range, featuring club tracks rooted in oldschool IDM that merge with modern elements of techno, chillstep, future bass and industrial, with intricate rhythms and emotive melodies. Building a bridge between the headphones and the dancefloor, the EP is a testament to Loopsnake's versatility as a producer. (this bio was written by ChatGPT before I knew better - AM)",

Andy Rantzen punches out tight electro over looped snippets of random noises from the original. Godswounds create their own duet with the master vocals over a half-time boom bap, square wave bass and chopped up scratches of Eliza's wails. Tim Koch goes to vocoder heaven with flittering glitch scapes and drones as the scenery. Finally, Loopsnake creates a noise mess with a buried metronome drum beat, sounds fizzing and flying in abandon.",

"blurb": "Final single from Karoshi's album, 'Sleepwalker', is the track, 'Walking In Fields'. The single comes with a radio edit and two remixes. One is by everybody's favourite remixer, Loopsnake, who pushes the drum loops and synth sounds through his glitched up electronics wringer. When the track was originally created, Karoshi asked Telafonica's Eliza Magill to write a song for the fledgling music. In the end, a few voice snippets were chopped up as rhythmic texture in the final mix. Here, Telafonica's remix reinstates Eliza's song over a minimalist backdrop.",

His album Entropy Begins at Home was a staple of my early radio days. After his production contributions to my cover of Umbrella as Luminarsi, he asked me to remix his track Silver Line. Somehow it turned into a 9 minute Norwegian disco inspired freakout that got absolutely rinsed on the radio when the host needed to take that extra time to run out of the studio and make a cup of tea.",

"blurb": "This is the first thing I made as Loopsnake, and even after all these years, it's probably the best thing I ever made. We'd played some shows together, mostly at goth clubs for some reason, and I loved this tune so much, so I asked for the stems. There's also a jungle version of my remix lost somewhere in the archives, that only got one play at one of the shows Joe Hardy put on at Pablo and Rusty's in Epping for his 'The Gate' project. I want to say that I didn't realise the impact that Seekae and this song Void were going to have, but I'd be lying. A few months later, they played at the Hopetoun Hotel in Sydney as support for Fire Island, which we all knew was a secret alias for Pivot (now PVT) around the time they got signed to Warp. Very much a rock music venue. The lads had their synths stacked on milk crates, hunched over their gear. Walking home from the show I remember hearing some lanky hipster kid in a cardigan say to his friend, 'I think I liked the support act better than the main band'. Sydney was, at that time at least, very much a pub rock city, but I reckon this show was a real turning point. To paraphrase James Murphy, that was when we all started to sell our guitars and buy microkorgs. Then there was the Presets second album, then there was Flume, but that night was one of the first steps on the path to what eventually became the Sydney electronic music scene. I also have to thank Lee Tran Lam for her neverending support of Loopsnake and my other projects on her beloved and phenomenally long running FBi Radio show Local Fidelity. I was genuinely surprised and touched when she decided to play this remix on her last ever show. The moral of the story is we all love Seekae and we all love Lee Tran."

With screeching synths, pounding kicks and lo-fi edges, there's still a place for melodic catches and attention grabbing production. A little help from Luminarsi in the remixing department also goes a long way in bringing out the best in an old Telafonica track as well. Listening back now, my remix has that 'I've just discovered synthesisers and I'm having a fun time mucking around' vibe, which some people find charming but I cringe at a little. Overcompressed Novation Bass Station on everything was my vibe at the time. I still love it, I'll be honest.",

Widely regarded as the first white suburban male to directly rip off MIA, this release from Luminarsi will unfortunately become an indelible part of the history of electronic pop music. --- I asked my then girlfriend to write a proper press release, and asked her to make it as disdainful as possible. She did, and I completely took it personally. Mea culpa. The EP was inspired by a conversation with TJ Eckleberg, who told me me 'f*ck up when you're young. f*ck up and f*ck up big'. I'd only heard the song Umbrella by Rihanna from people singing it at me, not from hearing the original version, so I made this cover to create the version I'd been imagining. I was way off the mark. This is probably the only place you can see the once-infamous Luminarsi ambigram online, which otherwise only still exists on one inch badge pins attached to decades-old JB Hifi lanyards in the bottoms of junk drawers somewhere. Some people still like the Umbrella cover I guess.",

I heard the first notes of Lambkin midway through another song, then they quickly stopped. Ghost in the machine I guess? But then I sat there so excited that my song was almost definitely going to be played next. Just some kid with a Pentium getting played along side acts like Boards of Canada and Mouse on Mars. Within a few years the Quadrasonic boys retired and I took over that slot, which - after much back and forth on the name - we called Liquid Electric, and I was fortunate enough to host that show for 9 years. I have a bit of a compulsion to rework and remix and sample my old tracks. Some of these songs from Firelight Cinema have been re-released, some more than once, and a few reworks are still in the pipeline to be released in 2027. For Brainfreeze Dub, Waronwa and Lambkin, though, I think these are still the definitive versions. Internet Archive link is often below. "

This was a CDR in a proper jewel case, and there are probably a few copies still floating around. Story goes, on the last day of school we had a talent quest. I made a eurodance parody called 'Das Ist Der Beat' and played that off a discman while I improvised guitar solos over the top. I remember people saying 'we've never even heard you speak before, so that was a huge huge surprise'. I put this EP out as a CD to get that song into the hands of the people who enjoyed it, plus a few other songs that would eventually reworked on later releases. Shout out to Tegan Fitzgerald who sang vocals on the closing track Kicked In The Butt By Love. "blurb": "all records lost. In 1999, I met a Queenslander through ICQ because we shared the same username. It was a Neon Genesis reference. After chatting for a couple of months, he said hey, I notice one of your interests is guitar... He sent me a cracked copy of an early DAW called n-Track. (I eventually paid for a copy). I used that to multitrack some bluesy guitars just to see how it sounded. I needed drums, so I downloaded Bram Bos Hammerhead Rhythm Station, which was all very 909 and 808 and didn't suit the bluesy vibe at all. I pitched guitars down for bass, and I borrowed my sister's mid-range Yamaha keyboard to add strings, and eventually got tempted by the more electronic sound banks on there. Once I had 10 tracks I uploaded them to mp3.com and politely asked if I could borrow my dad's credit card to buy a CD of my own music. Not a CDR - a proper CD. This is the first and last time my music was released as proper physical CD available to buy - the 90s were a wild time. I'm sure that CD is still in a box in my parent's garage. If I ever find it, I might upload it to archive.org, or, if it's that awful, I might just pretend I didn't find it. ",
